Andhra Bank offer

Andhra Bank has introduced a new scheme in Guntur, A.B. Super, under which fixed deposit for a period of 650 days would be offered an interest rate of 10.25 per cent, while the interest rate for senior citizens is 10.75 per cent. For deposits of Rs.15 lakhs and above, an additional 0.25 per cent of interest would be paid, according to a press release from Andhra Bank Deputy General Manager M. Somanadham.

TDP firm on separate Telangana: Naidu

GAJWEL (Medak district): Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Opposition leader in Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Tuesday said the party was committed to the formation of a separate Telangana state and added that the decision was taken after consulting leaders from all the regions.

Addressing a ‘Maha Dharna’ organised by the district unit of the party here against the price rise, he said: “TDP is the party which can deliver what it promised. After two-and-a-half years of discussion in the party and forming the Core Committee, which deliberated the issue in depth, it was decided to go in favour of forming the separate state. In the past, we said it was not possible. Now, we are committed to that.” There was a good response from the people when the TDP president spoke about the Telangana issue.

Alleging that going back on the promises that it made to the people was in the nature of the Congress party, Mr. Naidu said it could cheat once again and urged the people not to trust it. The TDP president announced a spate of sops to the people.

The list of promises included: allotment of house sites to the poor, construction of houses, free gas cylinders and reduction of gas price for poor, loan waiver to small and marginal farmers, 12-hour uninterrupted quality free power to farm sector, free power in domestic sector to those who are using two bulbs, one fan and TV, Rs. 1,000 to the unemployed, waiver of loans for weavers, low interest loan to the poor and free education to poor children.

Mr. Naidu said that similar programmes were planned in all the districts in the next two months.
